10 Easy Steps To A Proper Golf Setup Routine

The setup is probably the simplest problem to correct and master but it’s also one of the most critical. Without a good setup that leads to proper posture you’ll not have access to a very good possibility of swinging the club correctly. I’ve outlined a 10 step approach on the basics of the good setup routine. By making use of this routine before you decide to prepare to take a swing you will drastically improve your likelihood of making a solid swing.
1. Support the ball and pick a twig of grass between your ball as well as your target. Nearly every professional golfer will do this task.
2. Align your club square to the ball and facing your twig of grass, this will assure that your aiming straight for that target.
3. Set the body and feet position parallel towards the target line. Set your toes at a 15 degree angle for the left foot along with a 30 degree for the right foot. Never keep your right foot perpendicular to the line because it is to tough to turn your body during the back swing.
4. Lay the club first in your left hand after which lay your right hand on the top. For more details on your grip refer to my article on the Basics of a Proper Golf Grip.
5. Slightly bend your knees and lean forward, your arms should feel like they are dangling straight down. The sofa ought to be sticking out and the arch of your back straight.
6. Your weight should be balanced and on within your thighs. Your weight should also be more on your toes and also the balls of your feet then on your heels.
7. Check your grip end of the club shaft ought to be about 8-10″ out of your belt buckle.
8. Keep the chin off your chest but stay focused on your ball. Your left shoulder will have to come under your chin at the top of your swing.
9. Make sure that the club head is still facing in the correct position and apply the correct grip pressure.
10.Next, take some waggle and you’re simply ready to take your swing. Many professional golfers will take just a little waggle to loosen up and release tension. Arnold Palmer was known for his waggle before each shot.
On the final note I wish to talk about ball position and width of the stance which are variables depending on which club your using. The reason being the length of the shafts will vary. For a driver the feet should be slightly wider than shoulders. Then slightly narrow your stance as the clubs get shorter. As far as ball position is concerned, the rule of thumb is that your hitting zone is going to be from your left heel towards the middle of your stance. The longer the club it will be more towards your left heel or forward inside your stance and the opposite for your shorter clubs.
Keep practicing this routine until it might be second nature. When your watching the pro’s on TV you will notice each and everyone of these go through a setup routine. Preliminary swing basics are absolutely essential along with a proper setup routine is the initial step to some solid golf swing.
