If you are taking the time to read this article you are either already aware of the importance of getting your golf swing on plane or you are curious as to exactly what this plane talk is all about.
For the latter group the plane of the golf swing is essentially the path traced by the golf shaft all the way from address to finish. Think of a plane as say a sheet of paper. Lay the paper on a desk and that is a horizontal plane. The more you tilt the paper up the more vertical or upright the plane becomes. The golf swing plane is somewhere in the middle – a taller player should have a more vertical or upright swing while shorter players should have a more horizontal or flat swing.
There are different swing plane theories but most teachers agree that a one plane golf swing is the most effective for the average golfer. Professional golfers tend to re-route their swing at the top of the backswing and have a slightly flatter downswing in an effort to store-up a little more power and deliver the club more from the inside. If you only golf occasionally and don’t have hours a day to practice then keep your swing as simple as possible!
The benefit of a single plane swing is more consistency. You basically will need to swing more with your body than with your hands. First, is there a proper golf swing plane? Perpendicular to your spine angle is the answer. Therefore if you want only one plane for your golf swing you need to make sure that you keep the same spine angle throughout the swing as well. In other words no standing up on the backswing or dipping to get back to the ball. Also ensure that your spine is straight not curved by not bending over at the waist – bend at your hips.
Once you have a consistent spine angle you need some point of reference to make sure that you are rotating properly around your spine. To do this try not to let your trailing elbow move away from your side during the backswing. This might not be the fluid powerful-feeling swing that you are searching for but it works – give it a chance. You will find that in order to accomplish this you will need to stop swinging your arms back as soon as your upper body has rotated as much as possible (without changing your spine angle). The result will be a repeatable swing.
Try this golf backswing tip – place a golf glove under your trailing armpit and swinging normally. Repeat until the glove does not drop to the ground on the backswing. So to summarize – rotating around a consistent spine angle with your right elbow as a point of reference should really help you get your golf swing on plane.

Golf Swing Plane: Be A Great Golfer Immediately!

Golf is one of the most fashionable sports on the whole planet. However, a layman would be hard pressed to define the meaning of a golf swing plane. First of all, let us start off with stating that the golf swing plane is not a tool, it is an element.
The golf swing plane is important because it determines whether a golfer will win or lose a game. One of the most famous golfers known for exceptional display of his golf swing plane is Ben Hogan. Incidentally, Ben Hogan is also a member of the Professional Golfer’s Association of America.
It is best to envision the golf swing taking the motion of a pendulum. As you swing the golf club, let the rod follow the arc not unlike that of a pendulum. Should the pattern of your golf club waver, you will probably hook and slice the ball instead.
This also indefinitely indicates that your method of swinging the golf club is off center. If the swing is too far outside of the golf ball perimeter, straighten your posture and reign in your arms. If the swing is too far in of the golf ball perimeter, tilt your body forward to increase the contact area.
It is preferable to execute a perfect golf swing for corrections midway to a swing will use up the golfer’s power as well as concentration during the shot itself. Ideally, you should have already perfected your swing plane even before you start taking shots from the golf ball. This can only be done if and only if the golfer has already mastered the basics of a good golf swing.
First of all, you need to have a good stance. You should be bending forward at the hips with bent knees and a flat back. With your shoulders straight, avoid swinging with your hands.
During a back swing, slightly turn your shoulders to create torque during the swing. As the golf club swings downwards, you will then find that the turning force is released at the waist area. It is important that you avoid swinging yourself backwards, because that will counter the torque and cause your golf ball to slice.
A great tip for helping you keep your swing plane is to stick two sticks into the ground and practice your swing without touching the sticks. Also note that the two sticks should be about three inches apart from tip to tip. For more information on the golf swing plane, do look up The Simple Swing e-book.

Choosing Which Golf Swing Plane To Use
February 22, 2010 by articles

There are two different swing planes you can choose from when playing golf. These planes are opposites of each other and are used for different things as a flat plane produces more power while an upright plant provides greater accuracy.
There are three separate sections to a golf swing; the backswing, the downswing and the follow through. Before you can chose which swing plane to use it is important that you have proper and correct form for your golf swing otherwise you will always have problems with the different swing planes. You can practice good form by videotaping yourself or by swinging in front of a full length mirror.
Before you can even begin to work on the swing plane you need to be using a proper golf swing and there are three parts to work on; the golf back swing, the golf downswing and the follow through of your swing. Before you can work on the different golf planes you need to be able to perform a perfect swing every time using muscle memory. It is good to see yourself in a mirror or to tape yourself when swinging to see what needs improvement.
An upright swing plane usually has the hands achieve a very high position at to the top of the backswing. Instead of completely swinging round your shoulders the arms will rise up to change the plane. The greater the gap you achieve between your right arm and body than the more upright the swing is.
If you want to change between the different wings then you will need to remember the positions unique to each plane. The name can really help you to remember what to do, as they describe it plane very well.
If you are having problems mastering the different planes then you should not try to correct it on the golf course. If you attempt to fix things when you are playing a game you will simply be frustrated and will not make any progress. It is best to go to a driving range or other spot in which you can practice.
These two golf swing planes are quite different and generally a professional may only use one. It is up to you to choose the best swing for your golf game.
